Building for the Factory Floor: How Squint Is Bringing Apple Intelligence to Manufacturing

At Squint, our mission has always been simple: build cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) tools that accelerate potential for the people who keep factories running. Our technology already makes factories more efficient, allowing operators access to real-time guidance, training, and insights just by pointing a phone or tablet at a piece of equipment — and it’s built for the heat of the factory floor, not retrofitted from office software.
Now, with Apple Intelligence, we have a major opportunity — to take Squint’s world-class consumer-grade technology and make it even faster, smarter, and more reliable in real-world industrial environments where connectivity is spotty or nonexistent.
Because efficient factories don’t have time for slow Wi-Fi, so the technology powering them shouldn’t either.
Bringing Foundation Models to the Floor
Earlier this year, Squint began developing with the Foundation Models framework that lets developers bring large-scale, on-device intelligence directly into their applications. The framework gives us a way to make AI even more useful in high-stakes industrial environments where connectivity is unreliable, yet precision and speed are non-negotiable.
On factory floors, reliability isn’t optional. Networks drop, devices go offline — yet operators still need the right information at the right moment to keep production running. With Apple Intelligence, Squint can deliver that reliable intelligence directly on the device — fast, robust, and ready whenever it’s needed.
How Squint is Leveraging this New Opportunity
The minute our team began working with the Foundation Models, we started thinking about how to best leverage this technology for our customers, and lucky for us, Apple created something that was incredibly intuitive to integrate with. This work was supercharged when our team joined a Foundation Models Workshop at Apple Park earlier this fall. And now, the first feature using Foundation Models is shipping to customers: Quiz Generation and Verification.
Quiz Generation and Verification
Starting today, Squint users, on devices that support Apple Intelligence, will be able to automatically generate graded quizzes and learning materials from their existing procedural content anywhere on the factory floor. Additionally, not only are operators able to generate quizzes, they are also able to perform these quizzes offline and have both multiple choice and long-form answers graded in real time, with the Squint providing both the score and the reasoning behind it.
Now, the full training and reinforcement learning loop can happen directly where the action is, which is often an isolated/low-connectivity area. There's no risk of losing data or the flow of learning being interrupted.
The real world is imperfect and messy, but the expectations on the factory floor demand perfection. Now thanks to Apple Intelligence, Squint is better able to deliver on that promise no matter the environment.
What’s Next
Beyond Quiz Generation and Verification, we have quite a few other Apple Intelligence empowered features cooking for Squint users. Here’s a preview of what’s to come.
- AI-enhanced procedure refinement: With this feature, Squint will intelligently refine procedures based on industry best-practices, compliance, and company rules, allowing users to build rich and well-structured procedures from anywhere in the factory, instantly.
- Auto-generated revision notes: This feature will enable Squint to examine the published version of a Procedure, compare it to the revisions in the draft, and then summarize changes, saving authors time and making detailed notes the default — even in the deepest corners of the factory floor. This added functionality will help prevent mistakes and it enables a cleaner and more detailed audit log for all changes, with no additional effort.
Consumer-Grade AI, Built for Real Work
At Squint, we pride ourselves on providing factory operators and leaders with the same level of usability and intelligence that consumers expect from their phones and tablets.
By running Squint with Apple Intelligence, we will be able to deliver that high quality reliable experience, with increased speed and robustness, everywhere work happens — even in zones of plants that, by design, have zero bars of service.
The result isn’t just more capable technology; it’s technology that stays out of the way and lets people do their best work.
It’s another step toward a future where industrial AI is not just connected — it’s resilient, human-centered, and designed for the factory floor.
At Squint, we’re building that future one shift, one operator, one factory at a time.
